This week book making was our goal, and books we did make! From sketchbooks, to comics, to zines, to collaborative books…we covered it all. By the end we had quite the collection of reading material, and each one was more incredible than the next. At the end of the week we even got a guest reader…Miss Annie Moore herself. Art Colony Presents: Surrealism with Jamie Kelty

07.22.11

Surrealism Art Colony was filled surreal antics and art projects all week. We ran into a performance artist on Lafayette street 1 block from CMA on day two of camp. The young artists worked in 2D and 3D media to create art works based on the art of Meret Oppenheim, Dali, De Chirico, Picasso, Louise Bourgeois, and Giacometti. Julia and her mom created a mustache cake for our exhibition entitled the “Mustache Bash”.

Art Colony Presents: Comics In Motion with Yashua Klos

07.18.11

Never before have comics been so explosive and full of action! This week’s class developed characters and comic strips, explored meaningful moments of movement and created full color dimensional worlds. A fantastic field trip to the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art solidified our inspiration and appreciation for the magic that is cartooning. By fusing classic and more groundbreaking approaches to stop motion animation, we were able to bring our fully realized comic inspired characters to life!

Art Colony Presents: Costume Design with Cecilia de Corral

07.15.11

With only four days for our creations, the pressure was on this week in Costume Design. We started out slow with some textile design, mask making, and clay-bead creations. As the week went on, and with plenty of inspiration from our field trip to the Natural History Museum, the designers worked incredibly hard: sewing, cutting…and sometimes gluing. Needless to say they pulled off some pretty incredible get ups.
