Tada!…it’s 2D animation and it’s flat out awesome. The Media Lab Art Colonists of Governors Island have created a magnificent medley of short films that represent a stop-motion tour through many 2D mediums. 2Dediums, if you will. And you should. Press play and witness these wondrous animations made with paper, pencils, paint, chalk, and beyond.
During this week’s 2D animation art colony, artists learned the depths of the 2nd Dimension. Using paper puppets, mural painting, rotoscoping, drawing, chalk and whiteboard, these young artists made many things come alive.
Animators at CMA built this city from scratch with their bare hands, construction paper, and scissors. It started as a desolate landscape, evolved into a bustling metropolis and experienced and unexpected demise, as many great civilizations do.
Young animators used geometric rubber stamps and craypas crayons to create growing and moving patterns, drawings, and cityscapes… take a look at the amazing displays.
